Harmony Hoekzema- Member of the Month August

August 2023

Get to know Harmony’s Success Story at Fit2Live Below!

This month’s spotlight is on the witty, humorous, and consistently fun Harmony Hoekzema.

Harmony has been showing up and loving dad jokes at Fit2Live since June of 2017. She is a proud and firm member of the 250 class club!

Harmony is fun to hang out with both inside and outside of the gym. She is easy to talk to and loves a good question of the day.

She has also consistently improved her strength over the years picking up some serious weight when the workout or life objective calls for it.

Unfortunately for us, this will also be a going away member of the month as Harmony and her family will be re-locating to New Zealand in the next couple of week.

It’s only right that we show off all of Harmony’s hard work one last time before she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her life to Middle Earth.

For these reasons and many more, Harmony has been chosen as our member of the month for August.

Tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do outside of Fit2Live, family, etc.

Well while I was growing up I moved around a lot, in between the Western Slope of Colorado and southern Michigan. I am a Project Manager, a mother of two super cool young teen boys, and a wife.  We have a super cute dog.

Besides spending time at Fit2Live I love hobbies.  I read (a LOT), crochet, play board games, hike, dabble in new technologies. And I am currently learning how to vlog so I can share my new adventure with everyone else.

When and why did you get started at Fit2Live?

I started at Fit2Live in June 2017, after coming back from a trip to Japan.  I had been going to a bodybuilding gym in Riverview, and I needed to find a gym closer to home that offered a community.

I watched that CrossFit documentary, where Matt came in second and I saw what these CrossFitters were doing and thought, dang that would be cool.

This will sadly be a going away Member of the Month as you’ll be moving to New Zealand next month. What is taking you to New Zealand, where will you be and what are you most excited about moving there?

My husband and I have been talking about living outside of the US basically since we were dating but didn’t have a solid plan.  Over time we had narrowed down where we wanted to live.  He found himself looking for a new job in October and decided to look at New Zealand as well as the US.  He got a really cool job there and now we are off for a great adventure.

We initially will be living in Auckland, but we will re-evaluate after the first year.

I want to do the mordor hike, which is a real thing.

Describe Fit2Live in 3-5 words AND what is your fondest memory at Fit2Live?

Lifetime of fitness, friendship, and fun.

I have so many great memories at Fit2Live, but my favorite is when there were like 10 of us all training for a supertotal meet at the same time.  The support for one another during training as well as on the event day was so amazing.

What are 1-2 things you have learned at Fit2Live over the years that you will carry with you for the foreseeable future and maybe rest of your life?

The #1 thing that I have learned from Fit2Live is that you will feel better if you keep moving.  If you are sore or you have an injury you can always scale as necessary.

What are a few things at the top of your New Zealand bucket list?

#1. Hiking mount doom.

#2. Weta workshop in Wellington.

#3. Sandboarding on the north shore.

Name a fun fact, skill or hobby that you have that not many of us know about.

I hate the way shoes feel on my feet, I always have. I would always rather be bare foot.

If you could make the workout “Harmony”, what would it look like (movements, repetitions, etc)?

There is only 1 answer to this…
