How to Build Healthy Habits That Stick

We’ve all been there—starting a new workout routine or diet with tons of motivation, only to lose steam a few weeks in.

It can be frustrating, but the truth is, building healthy habits doesn’t have to feel like a battle.

With the right mindset and strategies, you can create habits that stick for life.

Here are 3 strategies to help you make healthy habits that stick!

#1. Start Small and Build Up

One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to adopt a new habit is going all in too fast. You don’t have to overhaul your entire life in one day. Start small. For example, if your goal is to exercise more, begin with just 10 minutes a day. Once that becomes part of your routine, you can slowly increase the time or intensity.

Small, manageable changes are easier to stick with long-term, and they’ll help you build confidence as you see progress over time.

#2. Make It Part of Your Routine

It’s a lot easier to stick to a new habit when it’s tied to something you already do. Try to fit your new healthy habit into your daily routine. If you want to start meditating, try doing it right after brushing your teeth in the morning. If your goal is to drink more water, have a glass with every meal.

By anchoring new habits to existing ones, they become a natural part of your day.

#3. Track Your Progress

Seeing progress is one of the best ways to stay motivated. Keep track of how often you’re sticking to your new habit, whether it’s by using an app, a journal, or a simple calendar. Celebrate the small wins, like hitting a streak of five days in a row. Tracking your progress helps you stay accountable and gives you a sense of accomplishment.

#4. Don’t Be Too Hard on Yourself

Let’s face it: we’re all human (maybe not Elon Musk) and nobody’s perfect.

You’re going to have days where you slip up or skip your workout. That’s okay! The important thing is not to let one off day turn into a week or month of missed habits. If you mess up, forgive yourself and get back on track the next day. Remember, building healthy habits is a marathon, not a sprint.
