What is a Nutrition and Wellness Strategy Session?

Before I (Katie) became a nutrition coach, I was a nutrition client. About a year and a half ago, I booked a Free Nutrition Intro with EJ because I needed help figuring out how to fuel my body for an afternoon workout – not a time I typically exercise.

When we sat down to chat, I explained that I didn’t know what I should eat before my workout, when I should eat it, and what I should do about dinner in case I was hungrier than usual. I didn’t want to waste time getting my snack wrong, or end up under-fueled when I was trying to make progress toward my fitness goal. EJ suggested we schedule a Nutrition Strategy Session .

A Nutrition Strategy Session is a one hour session with a F2L nutrition and wellness coach. It is a great option for problem-solving a specific nutrition or wellness question you need help with, similar to a skills session with one of our personal trainers. 

During the session, the coach will ask you to describe the nutrition or wellness issue that has been frustrating your progress and ask clarifying questions so they can help you move forward with the best plan.  The strategy session includes some relevant education and building a clear, actionable plan that you can implement right away. Our goal is for you to walk away from the session thinking, “Yes, I can take it from here on my own.” A member recently described a strategy session as a “shove in the right direction.” 

In my own session with EJ, she explained why a combination of high- and low-glycemic carbs would be a great pre-workout snack for me. She also helped me create a plan for adjusting the make up of my regular dinner the days when I was still hungry. My plan was easy to remember and flexible enough that I didn’t have to measure my snacks meticulously or prep one specific item. Finally, she helped me brainstorm ways to implement the plan that week.
