What prompted you to start nutrition and wellness coaching?

After being diagnosed with Lupus in 2018, I felt like my body was betraying me. Gaining weight, being in constant pain, experiencing fatigue and intense migraines, I started to accept that I would never be able to feel confident again. Every vacation, for years, I was unable to walk without pain, dreaded stairs, and
could not stand without my hips, back and feet hurting. In March 2024 on the last day of a vacation, having had pain just walking to the lobby of my hotel, I realized that I could not keep living the way I was. Being unhappy, sedentary, feeling weak and in pain, I decided I had to get myself together. I did an internet search and found Fit2Live. I was excited to be able to work with a trainer and a nutritionist. I needed someone to help me put a plan together and focus on my health, strength and confidence.

What are some things you have learned during your 8 months of nutrition and
wellness coaching?

I have learned that “diets” do not work. That “quick fixes” do not last, and that if you want to change your body, you must put in the time, effort, and feed your body what it needs. Instead of starving myself, I eat more, substituting less healthy foods, for more nutritious and fulfilling foods. Instead of spending hours in the gym, I focus on quality workouts a few times a week with Coach Sharon, rather than exhausting my body, risking injury, and compromising my mental health. The most important thing I have learned is that mindset is everything. By being patient and kind to myself and focusing on strength rather than pants size, I have learned to appreciate what my body can do and continue to challenge myself.

What would you tell someone who is thinking of starting in with the coaching
program?

1. Challenge yourself to be open minded and trust the process.
2. Vulnerability can be scary, but there is no judgement, just support and
positivity.
3. Trust the experts to work on a plan that tackles goals specific to you, with you.
4. Be honest about your struggles.
5. Understand that progress takes time and celebrate the little victories.
6. The process is not about eliminating the foods you love but adding more
nutritious foods that you enjoy.
7. Be prepared to listen to your body and learn to fuel it efficiently.

Is there anything else you would like to add that tells your story?

From not being able to walk without pain, go upstairs without losing my breath and struggling to carry groceries at 39, I welcome long walks, challenging workouts, and sometimes even take the stairs instead of the elevator. Now at 40, I know as long as I listen to my body, use my support system, and focus on progress over perfection, I am dedicated to keeping up this healthier lifestyle.

Keep up the great work Lindsay!

You are an inspiration and a testimony to perseverance, the power of a positive mindset and keeping your focus on your long term goals.
