Nutrition and Wellness Client of the Month – Johanna Grum!
Johanna joined Fit2Live in fall of 2023 with goals of adding strength to compliment her running routine as well as increasing her overall fitness. She has been consistently showing up for the 6 am class ever since.
The strength and fitness gains she has gained have helped her continue to enjoy her volleyball and softball teams as well as compete in a couple half marathons and a full marathon. Johanna shares her passion for fitness with the younger generation as she is also a coach for a local high school track and field time, all this while she solves complex problems in her full time engineering job.
In the summer of 2024 Johanna decided to level up and add nutrition and wellness coaching to her routine. She has learned the energy that comes from fueling well and the benefit of recovery that comes with prioritizing sleep.
Johanna is hardworking and brings perseverance and determination into everything she does.
For this reason and many more we introduce Johanna as our client of the month.

What prompted you to start with nutrition coaching?
“I originally wanted to properly fuel myself for a half-marathon I was training for, in the hopes that eating better combined with the training would also lead to weight loss. After the race, my focus solely switched to weight loss as I was unhappy with the current state of my body and the future knowledge of needing to be within the parameters of my healthcare benefits.”
What are some things you have learned over the last 17 months?
“The importance of sleep! I definitely wasn’t getting enough of it. I’ve learned how to be stricter with myself in making sure I get to bed on time.
Visually understanding portion sizes. Forcing myself to weigh everything and be super diligent about each item I ate really helped open my eyes to what a serving size actually looks like. Before nutrition coaching, I was eating portions that looked normal, felt right, and would give me that full feeling once done. I didn’t realize I was overeating until my calorie deficit phase where I meticulously portioned everything.
Letting go of the “all or nothing” mindset, or at least really loosening the hold it had over me. It still creeps up from time to time, but I have more awareness and have become more accepting in finding alternatives that still allow me to achieve my goal even if it doesn’t follow the path/plan I had envisioned.”
What is something you would share with someone who is considering signing up for nutrition coaching?
“The results won’t be quick and you may have to try a few different systems before one of them finally works for you, but I’ve found the investment was worth it. I think I tried 3 or 4 different systems before discovering the one that clicked with me and worked with my day-to-day life. I was frustrated in the beginning, but after starting to see even small results in the right direction it helped me to slowly increase my motivation and willpower to stay focused. Also, having a coach as both your accountability partner and cheerleader.”
It is exciting to see Johanna work towards her goals and meet them, learning new things about herself and strengthening her growth mindset all the while.
Whether she is cheering on her favorite team, running, playing sports, singing or working out Johanna is a joy to be around and we are thankful for all she adds to our F2L community!
