Get to know Eric Foldenauer’s Success Story!

Eric has been with us for 3 and a half years and has been a hard working, consistent, and positive staple of the nocturnal creatures of 6am. Rain or shine, Eric is at Fit2Live bright and early more than he isn’t and is regularly involved in the majority of Joust social events. Over the last 3 and a half years at Fit2Live, Eric has seen some pretty amazing health, performance, and athletic results. Losing 5% bodyfat, getting off his blood pressure medication and nailing his first bar muscle-up have been some of the biggest PR’s.

When and how did you get started with us?

January 30, 2015. That was an impossibly hard morning, coming in to a CrossFit gym and to pretend like I could hang with all these crazy strong athletes. I walked in at 6am thinking it would be fine as long as we didn’t do one legged squats. I didn’t know they were called pistols. I thought I was safe even though they were clearly written on the chalkboard.

Favorite workout or movement in CrossFit?

Diane, possibly Cindy

Favorite superhero?

Now that’s a hard question. This year seems to be the year of Thor. Last year it would have been Wolverine. Traditionally, it’s been Colossus from X-Men. I have always had a soft spot for the giant guy with an artist’s heart.

If you could have one super power what would it be?

Super intelligence. Not omniscience. Enough to surpass the limitations of my monkey brain and understand what is needed to make this world great for everyone and how to get people to take the necessary steps.

What has been the biggest difference makers in your fitness since joining Fit2Live? The thing or things that has taken you to the next level.

The fundamental thing that has given me the most improvement is just showing up. I trust in the programming at Joust to do the rest. I don’t need to be the fastest or the strongest. I just need to keep showing up.

That said, it wasn’t until the nutrition challenges and my regular attendance in gymnasty where people started taking notice that I was getting stronger.

Will the magnificent beard ever make a comeback?

I don’t think I could do the massive beard again. There came a time when I missed eating a nice runny egg or eating soup in public. When I had to adjust the beard to put the bar on my chest was the breaking point.

Tell us about your magical pretzel making skills. Why did you start making them? Where did the recipe come from? When will they hit mass distribution so we can enjoy them on a regular basis? ;).

I think I have been rolling pretzels for ten years now. It’s funny. I never really cared much for pretzels. When a coworker brought some in for a lunch party, I found a pretzel that was just amazing. He gave me their recipe. I fell in love with the process. Making a pretzel is meditative for me, and I get to share it with people I enjoy. I don’t know that I will ever try to monetize it. There’s a passion in the process and the giving that I crave. And there’s a lifestyle to being a baker and a business owner that I don’t have a desire to live.

What is your main fitness goal going forward?

It took me 30 years to figure it out. Fitness is a journey, not a destination. Showing up is the goal. Getting lost in the workout is where I want to be. I want to be mobile, healthy, and spry for as long as I can. The decisions I make today will guide how I feel a decade from now.
