LIMI SHARIF- MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER 2024 AT FIT2LIVE!
December 2024
This month’s spotlight is on the very friendly, consistent and hard working Limi Sharif!
Limi is a very busy anesthesiology resident who knows the importance of prioritizing her health and fitness. She puts this into practice at Fit2Live 3-4 times each and every week!
Each class she attends she quietly kicks butt, showing up, working hard with no grumbles of burpees and a smile on her face.
Limi got her start at Fit2Live in September of 2022.
She needed more functional fitness and strength in her life and decided to give Fit2Live a try.
2 years later Limi is a proud member of our 250 class club and has plenty of strength and functional fitness to show for it.
For these reasons and many more, Limi has been chosen as our member of the month for December of 2024!
Read all about Limi and her Fit2Live journey below!
Tell us a little about yourself, where you‘re from, what you do outside of Fit2Live, family, hobbies, etc.
I was raised in Michigan, but originally from Canada. Although I haven’t lived there in many years, I do always love to go back and visit extended family in Toronto. I am the oldest of three sisters and my family’s ethnic background is from Ethiopia. It’s been many years since I have traveled there, so definitely due for a trip back. I live in Ann Arbor now with my cat, Simsim, a short-hair tabby cat. Whenever I can, I love exploring local parks and hiking trails, as well as doing anything outdoors with some sun.

When and why did you get started at Fit2Live?
Actually, funny enough my first exposure to CrossFit was a Netflix documentary that I randomly stumbled on. As I was watching, my first thought was 1) “These people are crazy” and 2) “There’s no way I could ever do that”. Fast forward a little while and I was exploring different types of fitness because I couldn’t find anything that I really wanted to stick to for an extended period of time. I tried lots of different things- tried martial arts, kickboxing, cycling, rock climbing, yoga, etc.- and I enjoyed all of them to an extent, but nothing really stuck. One day, I was thinking back to the documentary I saw and thought, “hmmm…why not give CrossFit a try?” So, I googled places nearby and found Fit2Live and was really nervous showing up to my first class thinking “What did I just get myself into….” Haven’t looked back since.
What is your favorite part of Fit2Live, what keeps you coming back and what is
your favorite memory at Fit2Live so far?
What I enjoy most about Fit2Live is the supportive atmosphere and that no matter what, you will get a good workout in. Doesn’t matter how busy or tired I get, as long as I pick up my phone and sign up for a class, I know that for that one hour I will break a sweat and have fun doing it.

You are an anesthesiology resident. What led you down the path of become a doctor and what led you into anesthesiology? Also, what is your strategy to make time for your health and fitness as a busy resident?
Yes! I am a first-year anesthesiology resident and wanted to be a doctor for a long time. Anesthesiology wasn’t something that was on my radar until medical school since I never had much exposure to it before then, but once I got to spend time in the operating rooms and got to see the breadth of what anesthesiologists do (breaking news: I learned it was more than just putting people to sleep!), it turned out to be the perfect match for me. I loved that I got to spend my days with patients in their surgeries and that you were the last person they saw as they went to sleep and the first person they saw when they woke up. I also love the hands-on nature of the field and that you really have to have a deep understanding of critical care and physiology to make sure you keep patients healthy and stable as they go through something as unnatural to the body as surgery.
With my schedule changing so much as a first-year resident, it can be hard to keep a consistent schedule. I try to have a list of priorities that are non-negotiables for me, and my health and fitness is one of them. Ultimately, my mindset is that you can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself. So, in understanding that life can get busy and exhausting and chaotic sometimes, I try to make sure that I make time for SOME kind of workout at least 4-5 times a week. Which is also why I love the pre programmed workouts at Fit2Live so much.
I hear you enjoy learning new languages. How many languages can you speak
and what is your strategy for learning new languages?
I enjoy new languages because they open doors to connecting with people and cultures that I might otherwise not be able to connect with in the same way. I can speak three languages (English, French, Harari) and am working on learning two more. My best strategy is just having fun with it and listening to music and watching TV shows in foreign languages.
What is a fun fact or hobby that you have that someone might not know about
you?
Love coffee shop hopping! Not even so much for the coffee itself, but just enjoy getting out of my apartment, grabbing something to drink, and working by a café window for a couple hours.
If you could travel to any place in the world tomorrow, where would you go and
why?
I would really like to take trip to Turkey with my family- for the history, the culture, and the food. That is one of the places on the top of my list. Also, photos of Cappadocia look like they are out of a movie. For myself, I would love to travel to Machu Picchu or hike up Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

If you could make the workout “Limi” what would it look like (movements,
repetitions, etc)?
Ooh, good question- something with rope climbs and cleans (and no running haha).
Maybe something like this:
For Time:
1 Rope Climb
10 Box Jumps
8 Power Cleans
20 Double Unders
1 Rope Climb
10 Kettlebell Swings
8 Power Cleans
20 Sit-ups
1 Rope Climb
10 Burpee box jumps
8 Power Cleans
20 Double Unders

Movie: Can I pick two? The Lion King and Whiplash

Quote: “Success isn’t about greatness. It’s about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success.” –Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson

What daily habit has changed your life for the better?
More so than a daily habit, it has been the mindset that, similar to the quote above, success and results are all about showing up consistently. If I take it one day at a time and just focus on making sure that I show up today, over the course of weeks, months, and years, that effort will add up and the results will come either way. So, I have been trying to focus more on being present and taking each day one at a time.

THANKS FOR BEING AWESOME LIMI!
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AT FIT2LIVE!
