This month’s member spotlight is on the quietly focused, incredibly hardworking, and endurance loving Johanna Grum!

Johanna got her start at Fit2Live in the fall of 2023 looking to add more strength and overall fitness to support her active lifestyle and running routine. Since then, she has become a staple of the 6am crew, consistently showing up early in the morning and putting in the work day after day.

Johanna is an avid runner, regularly tackling 5Ks, 10Ks, and plenty of half marathons and a full marathon while also balancing a demanding engineering career and coaching local high school track and field athletes.

She added Nutrition and Wellness Coaching in the summer of 2024 to further improve her energy, recovery, and performance, and the results have been impressive.

She is quietly determined and incredibly consistent 6am class regular.

Johanna recently completed her first Fall Brawl competition and is quickly approaching the 500 Class Club at Fit2Live!

Tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do outside of Fit2Live, family, hobbies, etc.

I was born & raised in Ann Arbor, attended UofM, and was lucky enough to find a job as a structural engineer in town.  I’m a member of the UMS Choral Union, an assistant track & field coach at a local high school, and play on a couple of rec volleyball teams.

When and why did you get started at Fit2Live?

I started in early 2024 on the “persistent” recommendation of my coworker. I gave it a try and ended up enjoying it far more than I could have anticipated.

What do you like most about Fit2Live, what keeps you coming back?

Hands down, the community.  Everyone is extremely supportive of one another and very welcoming to new members. I also love the gym’s stance on scalability and doing the best you can on any given day.  Lastly, I’m a huge fan of how every workout is difficult.

You are quite the avid runner. What do you like most about running? What is your favorite race to date and how has Fit2Live helped with your running?

I like the flexibility it provides and how accessible it is when I’m traveling.  My favorite race is the Scrumpy Skedaddle up in Flushing, MI at Almar’s Orchard.  Your entry gives you never ending pancakes and the orchard makes their own hard cider.  Fit2Live has helped with my running by giving me the strength training that I needed but wasn’t successfully adding into my schedule.

You are a very consistent 6am’er. Why 6am/what do you like about the 6am crew. Lastly, if 6am were a TV show, which one would it be?


I like to get my workout done first thing before work so I have less of a chance of backing out as the day goes on.  But I enjoy the comradery of my fellow 6am’ers and seeing their consistency helps keep me motivated.

What is a fun fact or hobby that you have that someone might not know about you?

To date, I have not broken any bones.  **immediately knocks on wood**

What does a perfect day look like for you from start to finish?

Some combination of reading, a good workout, ordering the Pesto Cavatappi (without mushrooms) from Noodles & Co., and spending time with my niece.

If you could travel to any place in the world tomorrow, where would you go and what would you do?

I’d go to Cedar Point and ride every roller coaster with a thrill level of 5.

If you could make the workout “Johanna”, what would it look like (movements, repetitions, etc)?

Some combination of cardio (running preferred!) and light to moderate weights.  I’d lean towards a full body workout that felt good after finishing.

What daily habit has changed your life for the better?

Taking a vitamin C tablet.

What future fitness goal are you currently working towards?

Getting stronger on my push-ups, pull-ups, & ring holds.  Also, getting back into running shape for a half marathon I will be running in October.

What is at the very top of your bucket list?

Visiting all the Big Ten football stadiums.
