June 2024
This month’s spotlight is on the ultra consistent, hard working and very friendly Corrine Potocki!
Corrine got her start at Fit2Live in September of 2023.
Corrine hit the ground running in classes at Fit2Live (literally) and has been incredibly consistent with her classes and hard work effort at Fit2Live.
She is a member of the 100 class club and is quickly making ground on the 250 class club.
Corrine is routinely in class at Fit2Live 4-5 times each and every week. She has an impressive 7 month streak of being in the committed club (20+ classes in a month).
She is the definition of discipline and consistency.
When she isn’t running past us in class she is quick to strike up a conversation and share her positively friendly personality with us all.
For these reasons and many more, Corrine has been chosen as our member of the month for June of 2024!
Tell us a little about yourself, where you’re from, what you do outside of Fit2Live, family, hobbies, etc.
I grew up in Farmington/Farmington Hills and have a big, blended family consisting of four older sisters and a younger brother. After high school, I lived in Nashville for a couple years before moving to Saginaw where I got my bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science from SVSU. I currently work in the chemistry department of clinical pathology at Michigan Medicine and live in Ann Arbor with my partner and our adorable orange cat. I am in grad school working at a master’s degree in data science and have two years until I graduate. When I’m not at work or studying, I love traveling, being outdoors (hiking, kayaking, running, etc.), reading, going to breweries, trying new food, making bread, and throwing pottery (on a wheel, not at a wall).
When and why did you get started at Fit2Live?
I started Fit2Live in September of 2023. At the time I was running a lot and wanted to focus more on strength building. Before that, I was going to Orangetheory but felt like I wanted more of a challenge but still high intensity, which led me to finding CrossFit.
What is your favorite part of Fit2Live, what keeps you coming back and what is your favorite memory at Fit2Live so far?
My favorite part of Fit2Live are the people! I remember how nice and inviting the members were on my very first day of class and it made CrossFit a lot less intimidating. I feel like the coaches really care about my fitness – they will scale a movement when needed or push me to add more weight when I doubt myself. I keep coming back because I love the workouts and community that are here!
I’m not sure I have a favorite memory, but I love how we are always celebrating each other! It’s always exciting when someone meets a class milestone or reaches a new PR.
You are quite the avid distance runner. How has Fit2Live helped and/or changed your running routine?
Fit2Live has helped balance out the muscle inequalities I had. I used to be a very quad dominant runner but now that I am stronger in my glutes and hamstrings, I can run with correct, efficient form. Before Fit2Live, I didn’t warm up before or stretch after running. I try to take time to properly warm up and cool down to prevent injury and decrease recovery time.
I hear you just bought a motorcycle, what was the catalyst for that purchase and how is it going?
I grew up riding on the back of my dad’s motorcycle, so even at a young age I knew getting my endorsement was something I wanted. My partner has been riding for over ten years and mentioned that he wanted to do a motorcycle tour/road trip and I guess that’s what pushed me to sign up for the basic riders course.
It’s really fun but also terrifying at the same time! I’ve never really used a clutch so learning to shift has been an experience in itself. I’m just taking it slow and practicing a lot in parking lots for the time being. I hope by next year I’ll be confident enough to ride on the road!
What is a fun fact or hobby that you have that someone might not know about you?
I’m a(n Irish) twin.
I had chickens growing up, but didn’t like eating eggs until my twenties.
I’m an aunt! I have three nieces and three nephews.
According to Spotify my most listened to genres of music are rap, house, and alternative R&B.
If you could travel to any place in the world tomorrow, where would you go and why?
Madeira, Portugal is at the top of my bucket list right now. It has beaches, mountains, forests, and sunshine so I could choose between relaxing and adventuring. I would really go anywhere though! If anyone has any vacations coming up and need a travel companion, just let me know.
If you could make the workout “Corrine”, what would it look like (movements, repetitions, etc)?
My workout would look something like this:
For time: (I have no concept of time, so I don’t know how long this would actually take)
1 mile run
Three rounds:
30 v-ups
30 deadlifts
20 reverse lunges (total)
20 hang power cleans
10 push jerks
10 push ups
1 mile run
Favorites!
Movie: Everything Everywhere All at Once (or anything Wes Anderson)
TV Show: Broad City
Song: Too many songs to choose from! My favorite album is Ventura by Anderson Paak
Book: Exhalation by Ted Chiang
Quote: “Everything you can imagine is real” – Pablo Picasso
What daily habit has changed your life for the better?
Having a set sleep schedule. I’ve worked second shift (3pm-11pm) for almost seven years, and it’s really easy to get into the habit of staying up late and sleeping in. I start getting ready for bed the moment I get home so that I can wake up early and accomplish a lot before going to work.
What future fitness goal are you currently working towards?
I would love to do more than one pull up at a time, or 10 pistol squats in a row, or double unders, or the RX weight of any WOD…really a better question would be if there was anything I wasn’t working towards (the answer would be no).
Maybe a marathon? I attempted one last fall but DNF due to hip pain but I might try again this year.
