Are You a Victim or an Architect? 🤔

Have you ever walked into a grocery store and noticed how all the different food products are placed?

The products grocers want you to buy are right at eye level. Many grocery stores are decorated with colors that stimulate hunger. The low-cost, highly palatable treats are staring right at you while you wait in line, and we fall victim to their strategic placement.

These tactics are commonly put into place for our health disadvantage, but what if we could take some of these strategies and use them to set our home environments up for nutrition success?

When we do this, we’ll make the healthy choice easy!

Keep it Simple

Here are some tips to be the health architect of your environment:

  • After returning from the grocery store, cut up your raw vegetables and portion them into grab-and-go containers or baggies.
  • Move the healthiest foods in the fridge to your line of eyesight. This is especially helpful if you forget those fruits and veggies in the crisper drawers.
  • Move your balanced snack options in the pantry to your line of sight, and put highly processed foods either out of sight or in the trash can.
  • Put fruits, counter-stable veggies, and the balanced snacks you want to prioritize into a bowl and display them on the countertop.

  • If hydration is challenging for you, keep all the parts of your water bottles together after they’re washed and store them fully assembled on an easy-to-reach shelf.

All about Hydration + 10 tips

Now, take a look around your kitchen. Are highly processed foods staring you in the face on the countertops, in the fridge, or when you open the pantry? Or are your most convenient options ready to be grabbed?

Take some time to be the health architect of your environment, and you’ll find that making the healthy choice becomes easier than ever.
