They’re everywhere!
False truths about health and fitness.
Whether these false truths are spread by the media or through gym folklore it doesn’t matter, we’re here to spread some truth on the matter.
Here are 5 misconceptions we hear a lot about fitness and their corresponding truths:
#1. “I Lack Motivation”
The truth is you may not be motivated because you haven’t found an activity that you enjoy or one that inspires you to change.
Consider trying activities like yoga, hiking, tennis, pickleball, or basketball that you may look forward to.
Of course we have to mention finding the best gym in Ann Arbor with coaches who give you plan to reach your goals and accountability along the way, that gym would be Fit2Live of course ;).
#2. “I need to go to the gym 5 days a week to get in shape”
This is not true.
People may skip going to the gym altogether if it requires too much commitment.
The key is consistency over time. Going to the gym 3 days a week for a year is better than 5 days a week half the year. Aim for 3 days a week of dedicated fitness time and moving your body outside of those workouts the other 4 days a week (park further away, take the stairs, walk the dog, etc).
#3. “I need to do cardio to lose weight”
Cardio can be mentally challenging and require discipline, which can be a deterrent for some.
However, it’s not necessary to lose weight. Too much cardio may actually lead to losing precious muscle which will lead to putting on more bodyfat (bad weight).
To lose weight we recommend a well balanced fitness routine involving cardio, bodyweight movements and strength training at least 3 days a week.
The real results come with your healthy habits outside of the gym which our members work on with our Nutrition and Wellness Coaching Program.
#4. “I’m too busy”
Being busy is not an excuse for not exercising. Even busy people like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg find time to work out.
It’s just a matter of prioritizing exercise in your life.
Remember, start small with 3 days a week, can you find 3 hours in your week dedicated to fitness.
Outside of that be a person who moves their body daily.
#5. “Working out is a waste of time”
Neglecting your health now may have negative effects in the future.
Make exercise a priority to stay healthy and energized as you age.
Each year we exist we lose muscle mass (thank you gravity).
It’s crucial to add in cardio for heart health and caloric balance, bodyweight movements to become efficient at moving your body through space and strength training to maintain your precious muscle mass and functional fitness.
