🧘 Embracing Mindfulness vs. 🚫 Imposing Restrictions

Are you someone who tends to adopt an all-or-nothing attitude?

Do you ever catch yourself thinking things like, “I’ve already deviated from my diet, so I might as well continue and start fresh next week” or “I won’t be able to stay on track during the holidays (or on vacation, or on the weekend) so I might as well indulge”?

Take a moment to pause and reflect on whether this approach has been effective for you. How do you feel mentally and physically afterward?

For most people, this all-or-nothing approach hasn’t proven to be conducive to achieving their goals, and it often leaves them feeling neither mentally nor physically revitalized or motivated.

This season let’s attempt a simple exercise to break this cycle – I assure you, it’s uncomplicated.

Strive to be more mindful and less rigid in your choices. That’s all there is to it.

You might be wondering, “What do you mean?” Here are two examples to clarify:

  • Opting not to have a treat because you’re already full or would prefer something else, instead of completely forgoing treats.
  • Enjoying a slice of your favorite pie because it’s a special treat or not something you’d typically make for yourself, rather than mindlessly devouring it just because it’s available.

At Fit2Live, we want to encourage you in your overall wellness journey. The key to achieving success both inside and outside the gym is to adopt a growth mindset.

What is a growth mindset?

  • Clearly establish the reason why you are embarking on a goal or habit and revisit your WHY often
  • Focus on what you can control (ie. taking action versus what the scale reads)
  • Strive for progress not perfection
  • Keep it simple and focus on only one thing at a time
  • Embrace challenges, failures and imperfections as growth opportunities
